Oven Roasted Broccolini

Broccolini is a small, tender green vegetable that is a delightful cross between broccoli and kale. It has a sweet, mild flavor, along with elegant long stems and small florets.

I am confident that this oven-method of cooking broccolini is one of the easiest yet yummiest broccolini or baby broccoli cooking method.

Roasting broccolini in the oven retains the nutrition and texture of the broccolini, making it healthy and nutritious in addition to being tasty.

This very simple and flavorful roasted broccolini recipe is everything a quick and yet delicious veggie side should be. It’s one veggie dish even non-veggie lovers will dive into and enjoy.

If I had to eat just one veggie dish…this very well could be it.

When roasted or baked in the oven using one sheet pan, broccolini becomes slightly crispy on the outside while retaining a tender center.

And not to be missed is that the whole broccolini floret is coated is soft, savory shreds of parmesan cheese, garlic and lemon juice. The flavor combination is just absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this oven baked broccolini recipe:

  • broccolini – broccolini is also known as baby broccoli. It’s a cross between kale and broccoli, and offers a milder, sweeter, earthier flavor compared to traditional broccoli. Both the stems and the florets are edible and packed with nutrition. Broccolini is a more delicate kind of broccoli. If you can’t find broccolini, you can substitute with regular broccoli.
  • garlic – use fresh garlic for best flavor.
  • fresh lemon – for really good and zingy flavor, use fresh lemon.
  • parmesan cheese – use high quality parmesan cheese for best taste! I like to buy a block and grate it at home. The fresher cheese, the better the flavor.
  • salt – an important ingredient to open up the flavors in your roasted broccolini. At more at the end if needed!
  • neutral oil – olive oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil, canola oil, etc. works great!

Roast broccolini in the oven

Let’s go over how to make roasted broccolini in the oven. It is so easy and requires under 20 minutes of your time, and for most of that time, the oven is doing the work.

First, grab a bunch of fresh broccolini. Make sure to wash and pat dry to remove excess moisture.

To prepare for roasting broccolini, preheat oven at 350℉. The low temperature will slowly roast the broccolini and allow it to gets tender without overcooking.

Get a large baking sheet and spray with cooking oil. You can also line it with foil paper first before spraying.

Lay broccolini on the greased baking sheet.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ingredients to season the broccolini – minced garlic, olive oil, salt lemon juice. Toss to mix.

Or you can do it the lazy way like this…Layer the seasonings on top of the broccolini (instead of mixing together in a bowl), and then toss everything to combine.

Spread broccolini out so that it is not overlapping. This will ensure even baking!

Sprinkle parmesan cheese all over.

Send broccolini into the – oven to bake at 350℉ for 15-18 minutes (adjust accordingly as needed). Shorter for your broccolini to be more al dente, longer if you like it softer.

When roasted broccolini is done, it should be loaded with flavors and slightly crispy on the outside while being soft and tender on the inside.

Sometimes I even top it with more parmesan because I like my roasted broccolini loaded with parmesan! It’s simply just so good.

  • Season with soy sauce, sesame oil and sesame seeds instead for an Asian twist.
  • In addition to garlic and oil, also season with red pepper flakes for some slight spicy notes.
  • In addition to garlic and parmesan, add in other Italian style cheese such as Asiago, Grana padano, Ricotta, or Romano.
  • To make it nutty and crunchy, add in chopped walnuts, pecans or almonds.

A few additional tips for preparing oven roasted broccolini:
