About Joyous Apron
Joyous Apron is a food blog for foodies. It’s for real, normal people like you and me who enjoy good food and want to make delicious food at home.
The heart behind Joyous Apron is simple: I want to help arm you with everything you need to make food you will truly love.
Simply put:
- I truly believe everybody can cook. Yes! That means YOU as well! You just need some good instructions, a lot of practice, and a little encouragement. That’s where I come in!
- I believe in creating recipes using good-quality and fresh ingredients, because it makes a difference! This doesn’t mean it has to be obscure, expensive, or complicated. In other words, it just means we put in good stuff so that the product is also…good stuff.
- All recipes shared are ones I think are delicious and have enjoyed, tested, and tried (multiple times). I’m dedicated to providing you with well-tested recipes so that you feel confident making them.
- I don’t sacrifice taste. If it’s healthy it happens to be healthy. But at the same time, I can think of so many healthy foods and ingredients that I love. Hello, avocados!
- I try to share everything I know and learned along the way to ensure your success! In addition to hundreds of recipes on this site, you will also find lots of helpful cooking and kitchen tips, step-by-step photographs, helpful tools, unhelpful tools, brands I love, ingredients to use (or not to use), substitution tricks, frequently asked questions, helpful shortcuts, mistakes I’ve made, and much more.

my culinary experience
I created Joyous Apron in 2018 when I decided to take a chance on starting my own business and launching my food blog.
At that time, I was a marketing professional and spent the last decade working in the corporate world. While I enjoyed my experience there and learned a lot (much of that has helped me build this business), I wanted to do something I was truly passionate about – creating recipes and sharing food with others.
I love food and have been cooking since I was a teenager growing up in Penang, Malaysia. I am a self-taught cook who came from a heavy food culture and a family of cooking and food enthusiasts. My grandmother and aunts from both sides of the family are incredible cooks and I grew up eating good food all the time. We take our food very seriously.
When I was nineteen, I moved to the United States for college. I have since lived in many cities in different parts of the country, travelled for work and pleasure, and had the chance to be exposed to a variety of cuisine and culinary methods.Just like my experience, on this blog you will see a little bit of everything, and you will notice the influence of my upbringing and experience in the foods I create and write about.

Outside my foodie world
I live with my best friend and better half in the Austin, TX area, and we have been married for 9 years. John is my guinea pig for all recipes, 24/7 business consultant, and biggest cheerleader.
I love the ocean, fine wine, and engaging conversations. If I had all the money and free time in the world I would travel and explore the ends of the Earth. On business class, preferably. 🙂
Life is short – I am constantly learning to see beauty, forgive quickly, serve others, and most importantly, find rest, satisfaction, and joy in Jesus in all that I do.
