These treats take the original Rice Krispies a notch higher by incorporating the nutty flavor of browned butter into the combination of gooey marshmallows and crunchy rice Krispie cereal. A fun and easy snack and dessert!
Start by browning the butter using a clear/stainless steel skillet (one that you can see the bottom). Cut the stick of butter into small, equal portions.
Place pats of butter in the bottom of the skillet. Turn cook top on to medium heat.
Once the butter melts, foam will form on top. Keep cooking the butter. As it cooks, brown bits will begin to appear.
As soon as you smell a toasted, nutty scent, remove from heat immediately.
Pour brown butter into a large pot, add the marshmallows and quickly stir them into the browned butter. Switch the heat to medium low.
Add vanilla and salt, and stir until all of the marshmallows are completely melted. Remove from heat promptly.
Fold in the Rice Krispie cereal.
Pour into prepared pan. Use a spatula to gentle flatten it, but don't press too hard and overpack it. Let cool/set.
