This unique French Onion Mac and Cheese recipe combines macaroni made with Gruyere and American cheese sauce, caramelized onions and a crusty breadcrumb topping.

Heat olive oil and cook the diced onions slowly until caramelized. Then cook macaroni according to package directions.
Next, melt butter and whisk in flour, then slowly combine the heavy cream. Mix in the cheeses until fully melted.
Stir in the milk, caramelized onions and macaroni noodles. Then transfer to a lightly greased dish and top with breadcrumbs.
